ARTIST BIOGRAPHY Lisle's art career got started in the late 70's and early 80's with 6 successive one-person exhibitions at galleries in New York City, East Hampton, Cold Spring Harbor and in various other towns throughout Long Island. Her works have been included in many group exhibitions throughout this region and are in numerous corporate and private collections. Her reviews, from these shows, describe her work as, "romantic abstractions filled with imaginative atmospheric drama.....intensely pleasurable experiences to behold.....the works soar into space, with ingenious ideas." In Lisle's show entitled 'ENERGY', the paintings were called "powerful.....dynamic in quality, unique in their approach and charged with movement.....the colors are prismatic and energized.....nothing about her work is run of the mill". For the past twenty-five years Lisle has owned and operated a wallpaper business, which has kept her away from pursuing her art career professionally, until recently. But she has never stopped painting and creating artwork. She built an artistís studio in 2002 and has quietly continued to produce a substantial body of work based on similar themes, thought and emotions that have always fascinated her. Lisleís studio is located in Huntington, NY. She graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University, in 1977. ARTIST'S STATEMENT My thoughts and themes have been the same as throughout my career but more refined and focused. My work concentrates on the theme of balancing peace of mind with chaos, of being responsible as well as being happy, of life being brilliantly jumbled and vividly stable all at the same time. I try to express, visually and conceptually the possibility of successfully and quietly living in a world of constant conflicting emotions. All the works are done in oils and acrylics on canvas, photography and acrylics on paper, in very personal collage formats. This format is an extension of what I do all day as a way to make a living. Precision cutting. Each piece of art is layered and cut into with a razor knife, creating sharp angular lines combined with smooth flowing lines. The finished pieces are structured, landscape oriented abstractions made from instinctive, emotional combinations. The idea is to create a vision of life as a balancing act between opposing emotions through color, shapes and lines. To embrace serenity in a chaotic world I visualize and create energy surrounded by silence, organized confusion, or the feelings of fear, frustration and anger set in a calm and quiet environment. I use real objects such as crystals, in seemingly unrealistic settings, to represent opposing emotions coexisting in unison. Landscapes and all things in nature appear in my artwork. Weather, seasons, water and plant forms are all used, as well, to suggest balancing conflict. Finally, the title of each piece lets the viewer see, feel and identify with the emotions being expressed.
